3D: Why do you enjoy playing the game?

Kia: I enjoy playing basketball for many reasons. Firstly I enjoy the competitiveness and the quick tempo of the game. I enjoy having something to look forward to after I come home from school and having a goal to work towards. I also like basketball because it is not only a physical game but it is also a mental game making it complex, but very fun.

3D: Describe your game in 3 words?

Kia: Quick, aggressive, smart

3D: Who is the toughest player you have played against?

Kia: Katie Miyazaki

3D: Who are your role models?

Kia: I would definitely have to say Steve Nash, he has such a great work ethic. He is so involved in becoming a better player, even when he is one of the best point guards in the NBA. He is the kind of player that I want to be like. I would also have to say my Dad, because he has always been there to push me and encourage me. He showed me how to work hard and what I need to do to become a better athlete, basketball player and all around good person.

3D: What has 3D done for your development?

Kia: 3D has showed me what I need to do to take my game to the next level. It has given me specific parts of my game that I need to work on. It has helped me to become a more mature basketball player with a better vision of the court.

3D: What are some of your future goals?

Kia: To be an NCAA point guard for a good school. Also, to play on the National team or in the WNBA.

Last spring, Kia led the New Westminster junior girls basketball team to a second place finish at the 2008 Provincial Championships. Kia was named to the tournament’s 1st All-Star team and is looking to lead the Hyacks again next season as they try to qualify for the AAA Senior Girls Provincial Tournament held at Capilano College.

Kia, who is the youngest player on the Premier Elite team is in her first year with 3D Basketball Academy and has shown tremendous improvement since the start of the club season. This dynamic point guard can hurt the opposition in many different ways; she can drive it or shoot it, and plays hard on both ends of the floor. With her continued work ethic and determination, Kia will keep developing into one of the top point guards in the province.
