3D Skill Development Program
Individual skill building will be a major focus of the 3D Elite Development Academy. 3D Academy Athletes will participate on the court 2-3 times per week to work on their skills. All players will be drilled starting with fundamentals and leading into advanced concepts. Areas such as ball handling, individual shooting mechanics, passing, rebounding, individual defence, and one on one play are just a few areas where Academy Athletes will work with experienced coaches. With a small group of Elite Athletes, coaches will be able to monitor 3D Academy Athletes and help them improve on these skills. These close interactive sessions will allow the athletes to get better individual attention with someone who knows them well and can monitor their progress on a day to day basis. Skill development will be based on the need of each athlete. Top University and College guest coaches will attend on-court sessions to help athletes with their skill building. Also, coaches will be conscious of the time of year and programs will be incorporated so that athletes are not run down during their high school basketball seasons.
Advanced Team Concepts
3D Elite Athletes will have the opportunity to work with high level university and college coaches to learn advanced team concepts. Athletes will have the opportunity to learn high level offensive and defensive strategies. Academy coaches will teach zone concepts, man to man concepts, trapping concepts and other advanced team concepts. The team concepts will be taught on the court as well as through video tape. Top 3D Academy athletes will use these team concepts in practice and in exhibition games against high level Canadian and U.S. opponents.
Mental Training
One of the most over looked parts of the game of basketball is the mental side. Experienced and trained 3D coaches will introduce athletes to mental aspects of the game such as visualization, positive talk, confidence, relaxation techniques, goal setting, and learning styles. Athletes will also have the opportunity to work with coaches on anylising video tape of their games and practices to see where they can improve their games.
Strength and Conditioning Program
Through our strength and conditioning program, athletes will perform a series of fundamental exercises for speed, strength, power development, such as; Olympic lifting, squats, deadlift, with various upper and lower body auxiliary exercises to supplement the primary exercises.Speed, plyometrics, agility work will also be incorporated throughout the program. All these skills will be organized in a periodized model that will be planned out throughout the year with all important competition dates and rest dates.
The benefit of incorporating strength and conditioning into a program is it gives the athlete the necessary general to perform athletic movement faster, quick and stronger than before. The difference between our athletes and the US is small, but that difference is enough to dictate the outcome of a game, they are faster and stronger. By adding strength and conditioning we will then close that gap between us and our competition. We are giving the athlete the opportunity to create a platform from which they can propel themselves from, we are giving them options to compete, we are giving them options to succeed
Success is no longer a goal, but a standard.
